How To Make Salmon Cakes

Looking for a quick and easy 30 minute meal? Salmon Cakes are one of my favorite meals to make when I am in a rush to make dinner. It is a quick and easy less than 30 minute meal and it is delicious! My first time having salmon cakes was with my grandmother. Before she passed away she would make them for us all the time! I usually eat them with a side of rice and green beans. I just feel the three go together so well! Below I am sharing my family recipe along with a quick youtube video on how I make my salmon cakes! I have the traditional recipe written down below , however it doesn't exactly follow the steps in the video. I do have an updated video on my Facebook Watch Channel! You can use fresh salmon if you don't want to use canned salmon. Canned salmon cuts down cooking time and just makes the process faster. Just be sure to cook fresh salmon first before turning it into patties. You can make the salmon patties by following the directions below.


Do not mix these ingredients until all ingredients are in the bowl. You can use fresh salmon or you can use a can of salmon. For fresh salmon be sure to cook the salmon first before creating your patties. Place the fresh Salmon skin side down, wipe olive oil on the salmon, and season with salt and pepper. Let the salmon bake for about 15 to 20 minutes. Once your salmon is cooked pop your salmon into the fridge for about 10 minutes to get cold.  For canned salmon, open 1 can of salmon cakes and debone the salmon. After you have deboned the salmon, pour the salmon into a bowl. Dice one half of an onion, dice one half of a red bell pepper, and one half of a green bell pepper.  Toast one slice of bread to create bread crumbs or use bread crumbs from a can. If you use a can of bread crumbs you will only need a 1/2 cup. Place those ingredients into the bowl of salmon as well. Crack an egg into the bowl of salmon as well. Add old bay seasoning, salt and pepper. Mix all of the ingredients together. Once all ingredients have been mixed together start to create your patties.

Turn on frying pan or skillet to medium heat and lightly coat the pan with olive oil. Be careful of heat because the cakes cook rather quickly. Let the cakes simmer for about 5 to 10 minutes on each side until the cakes are golden brown.


One can of salmon or fresh salmon

salt, pepper, old bay seasoning

red bell pepper

green bell pepper

fresh garlic (optional)

toast or canned brad crumbs

one half of an onion

olive oil

one egg

parsley (optional)
